The discovery of a colony of newts on the site emphasises how the biodiversity improves on our site day by day. Board members and other Coop members spent last Saturday morning protecting the new composting toilet from petty vandalism which seems to have happened after a small dog managed to get stuck under the toilet.
During this work we were delighted to discover 24 newts, in small groups mainly, living in the ground around the site of the toilet.
We relocated the newts to a safe place in the adjacent hedge and installed chicken wire around the base of the toilet to prevent unwanted access at ground level.
