About this event

West Solent Solar Cooperative is hosting its annual Biodiversity Tour on the West Solent Solar Farm starting at 11am on Saturday June 20th 2026. The tour will be led by John Durnell of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

You will learn about the variety of plant life and wildlife that is flourishing on this ex-landfill site.

Arrival from 10.40am for an 11am tour start. The tour will last about 1 to 1½ hours.

Not suitable for children under 5 years.

A solar farm is a live power station generating large amounts of electricity so children must remain under close parental supervision at all times.

Sorry not suitable for dogs.

Suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs but please let us know in advance so we can cater fully for your needs.

Toilets

Composting toilet on Solar Farm (with wheelchair ramp).

Difficulty

Level walk at a leisurely pace. There could be some wet areas if there has been heavy rainfall. Some of the field surface is rutted and uneven. Sturdy waterproof, ankle-supporting footwear is advised.

Parking

Parking in Iley Lane for 6 cars in a layby and 3 cars on tarmac in Iley Lane just beyond Solar Farm entrance. If possible, it would be great if you could car share, cycle or walk.
