School Solar Tour

Year 6 pupils from Orchard Junior School, Dibden Purlieu were the first local school children to visit our solar farm.

The first tour were blessed with some early winter sunshine, which at one point meant that the solar farm was generating 1 megawatt of electricity, enough to boil about 350 kettles, or to power around a million mobile phone chargers.

The children also heard how the solar photovoltaic (PV) effect was first discovered in 1839, and how internet and global communications rely on solar-powered satellites orbiting the Earth.
